Create a Mathworks account and install MATLAB


OVERVIEW

Target audience: McGill faculty, staff, students and researchers 

Through a campus-wide license agreement, McGill provides free access to MATLAB and Simulink computation software products, from MathWorks.

In this article:

Create a MathWorks account

Before gaining access to the software, you need to create an account on the MathWorks site.

  1. Go to Create a MathWords Account and click on No account? Create one!

  2. On the next screen, fill in the following information fields:
    • Email Address - enter your McGill email address (first.last@mcgill.ca or @mail.mcgill.ca)
    • Location - Canada
    • Which best describes you? - choose "Teaching or research in academia"

  3. You will receive a verification email from MathWorks; go to your Inbox and click the link in that email to proceed.
  4. You will be prompted to enter additional details and create a password for MathWorks.
    IMPORTANT: Be sure to use a password that is different from your McGill Password.


     

  5. Click the checkbox labeled I accept the Online Service Agreement. and click Create. 

  6. Click Download, and proceed to follow the instructions to install the software, below.

  1. Go to MathWords site and sign in, using your McGill email address, and your MathWorks password. 
  2. You will be brought to a page containing the MATLAB versions available, some of which you may have already downloaded. Click the Download arrow next to the most recent  stand alone version.

  3. Click the button to download the latest version available.

  4. Select the version for your operating system

  5. Once the package is downloaded, extract the files to your computer.

  6. You may be prompted by your operating system to allow the installation.

  7. When prompted to Select installation method, choose "Log in with a MathWorks Account"

  8. Choose Yes to agree to the Software License Agreement,and click Next.

  9. Log in, using your McGill email address and your MathWorks account password.

  10. Choose Install when prompted.

  11. On the License Selection page, choose the stand alone version for license for 521249 and click Next.

  12. Choose the folder location on your computer.

  13. Keep all boxes checked to install all the product components.

  14. You may be prompted to add a shortcut to your desktop or Windows start menu.

  15. Click Install to begin the installation, or click Back to review or change any of your selection.
