OVERVIEW
Target audience: Site Administrators, Site Managers
A site’s Dashboard in the Web Management System (WMS) makes monitoring the site's health easy to ensure that visitors get the best experience possible.
The Dashboard displays an assortment of helpful reports. It’s a good idea to visit the Dashboard routinely to identify and address concerns as they arise.
How to access the Dashboard
To view the Dashboard, log into your site and click the Dashboard link in the administrative toolbar at the top of the page.
Dashboard components
Components on the Dashboard include:
- General information: Data about your draft and published content, site users, most recent webforms, untranslated content, and scheduled content.
NOTE:
It is normal to see a wide variety of users in the Site Users component, including users who no longer have any role. Authors shouldn't disappear. If the person has left McGill, their access to all systems is disabled. If they move departments, a request is needed to remove their permissions.
- URL duplicates report: A list of all URL aliases that end in a number. These are sometimes created as duplicates.
- Broken links: A list of links returning errors. For more information, please see the article Find broken links in the WMS.
- Placeholder words scan report: This report identifies:
- Common placeholder text (e.g., "lorem ipsum," "coming soon," "under construction") on published pages.
- Our WMS accessibility and usability standards recommend leaving a page unpublished rather than using "Coming soon" messaging.
- Links using non-descriptive text (e.g., “click here") instead of text that offers more context (e.g., "contact us").
- Published pages that are empty (no content).
- Absolute links that point to staging.mcgill.ca sites.
- Common placeholder text (e.g., "lorem ipsum," "coming soon," "under construction") on published pages.
