OVERVIEW

Target audience: Site Administrators, Site Managers

In the Web Management System (WMS), blocks are pre-designed containers for important or highlighted information. A block can be placed on one or more pages, allowing content to be updated in one place.

In addition to the standard block, other block types provide templates with additional functionality and styling options. For a list of the block types in the WMS, please see the Index of Documentation for the McGill Web Management System.


Adding a standard block 

To add a standard block:

  1. Go to My Workbench
  2. Click the Create Content tab
  3. Under Create Blocks, click Standard Block

  4. Fill in the fields:
    • Label: a brief description showing on the administration page only
    • Title: appears at the top of your block
    • Body: add text to your block. To add an image or a file, click the Add media icon on the toolbar.
    • View Mode: There are  three options to choose from:  
      • Full: Spans the full width of the region where the block is placed. Recommended block regions are: Top of content, Bottom of content, Top of page, or Bottom of page.
      • Half: Two columns of blocks, each taking up half the width of the region
      • Third: Three columns of blocks, each taking up one-third the width of the region

  5. Click Save
