Remotely accessing computer labs

Students may have restricted access to select classrooms and computer labs.

The Computer lab availability and reporting service allows you to locate available workstations in classrooms and labs where specialized software is installed. After you locate an available workstation, use Microsoft Remote Desktop to facilitate remote access.

You will require the following to access a workstation using remote access:


Locating & connecting to an available computer lab

To access a workstation using remote access:

      1. Connect to VPN.
      2. Use a Web browser to go to McGill AnyDesk
      3. Click on the tab of the Faculty you want to connect to. In the example below the Faculty of Management is selected.
      4. Select a lab



      5. Click the Connect link on one of the available computers. Use the filters to list only available computers.



      6. Download the connection file when prompted:
        • For Windows: Double-click (or click) the downloaded file to open it.
        • For Mac OS:
          1. Open Microsoft Remote Desktop
          2. Choose Connections > Import from RDP file, then browse to the file downloaded in Step 5

          3. Double click the imported computer to connect to it

      7. If prompted, click Connect.

        Note: If you get a security warning, please accept or click Continue or Yes. You are using a safe connection despite the warning.

      8. At the logon prompt, you will be required to connect with your credentials. Use your McGill Username and Password.
      9. When your lab or class has ended, Sign out of your session by right clicking the Start menu and choosing Shut down or sign out > Sign out.
